Finding Purpose in the Pain: Embracing Hardship with Hope

Scripture tells us to embrace hardship, though it’s often misunderstood. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that God is not punishing me through hardship—He is building me up and shaping me to become more like Christ.
“Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?”
— Hebrews 12:7 (NIV)
Hardship doesn’t mean God has turned His back on us. In fact, it often means He is near, refining us, and strengthening our faith. He is teaching us perseverance, patience, and trust.
We also know from Scripture that everything is temporary—both joy and suffering have their seasons.
“A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:4 (NIV)
Even though our loving Father allows us to walk through difficult seasons, we can trust that He is working behind the scenes—fighting our battles and preparing a way.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
— Exodus 14:14 (NIV)
Sister, This Season Has Purpose
If you're in a season of sanctification—a season of breaking down—God is preparing to rebuild you. He is making you stronger, wiser, and more Christ-like. He is refining your heart so that it reflects His love and glory.
This season may feel heavy, but it's holy.
Reflection Questions
I invite you to take a few quiet moments today to reflect. Open your heart, grab your journal or notes app, and prayerfully consider the following:
1. Has God ever let me perish?
Think back to past hardships you've endured. How did God carry you through?
Even before you fully walked in the light of Christ, can you recognize times He still provided for you?
2. What is God teaching me in this season?
Sit with this question in prayer. Ask the Lord to reveal what He’s showing you through your current struggles.
Wait for His response with expectation and faith.
Final Encouragement
Whatever you’re going through today, know this: you are not alone. You are seen. You are loved. God is not punishing you—He is preparing you. Trust Him in the breaking. There is beauty on the other side.
